|Autumn Trees by David Wagner|
As the days of August wane, the trees whose leaves change color have already begun doing so. The days are growing noticeably shorter and the average daytime high temperature continues its decline. (Of course, if you are in the Southern Hemisphere, your days are getting longer instead!)
Thus I believe it’s time for a How I Spent My Summer essay. One might suggest that I’ve omitted the word vacation from the title of this essay. However, I don’t think I could call it a vacation when I’ve been so busy working on stories. Quite possibly the biggest one of the summer has been Optical Osmosis, which saw a release just before summer’s official start, and then the blog tour of July. At present, I am working on two new novels, Interstellar Dad and the prequel to Spell of Entrapment, A Mage Among Trolls. I also am still working on Optical Osmosis, even though it’s out.
Now you might be asking how I could be working on a book that I’ve already unleashed? Well, I’ll tell you. Optical Osmosis is my flagship story that will launch me into the realm of audio book production. I put the book up for auditions via Amazon’s ACX program, one I highly recommend to indie authors who want to at least entertain the possibility of the audio book format. This has been easy for me to do because ACX gives me the option of either paying for the production, or splitting my royalties with the audio production. Cost effectiveness of course has dictated that I go for the royalty split.
As of Wednesday, August 21st, I’ve received the audio audition from a voice narrator. After listening to the sample and taking a couple of days to consider the work, I have made an offer. (The way ACX is set up makes communication between the author and producer effective, at least in my eyes.) It’s been accepted, and already the opening and closing credits are complete, as well as the first two chapters. I have two chances to discuss any revisions that may need to go into the audio reading. It’s sounding fairly sharp, however.
I’m hoping to have the audio book version of Optical Osmosis out in time for the holidays. I’m not sure if I’ll be releasing Interstellar Dad or A Mage Among Trolls this year since those are still taking time. At least with the audio book, I have something I can release and not have so much pressure on me. I’ll also work on getting audio book versions of Spell of Entrapment and Speed Demons out there, too. Big things are coming, and I’ll make sure to keep you apprised of them!
So, what have you been up to this summer?
